The outbreak of coronavirus has drastically changed everything and created a whole new way of thinking and living. During these challenging times of pandemic, it is very important to maintain your overall well-being and not become “covidiot” — an individual who doesn’t follow COVID-19 precautions, and doesn’t think about his/her own or others’ health.

However, you don’t need to be covidiot or neglect your physical and emotional well-being. Here are some of the tips one should follow to maintain overall well-being during a pandemic.

Create a proper daily routine

Think about your pre-pandemic routine. Everything seems so settled, right? If you make daily in-home routine, it helps you to adopt a new lifestyle easily. It also helps to manage the anxiety quickly. Try to make a clear difference between non-work and work time, ideally both in your head and workspace. Incorporate something new and relaxing in your routine, which brings joy and fun in your life. Taking breaks during work time may also help you to be more productive and maintain clarity in thoughts.

Exercise regularly

You can’t go outside due to strict stay-at-home orders, but you can still regularly exercise in the comfort of your home. According to a study conducted by researchers at University of Bath, moderate and regular exercise has immune-boosting advantages that can help your body fight off the viruses or infections, including COVID-19. Since you are living at home, you might witness yourself indulging in junk food. So exercise can prevent weight gain as well. Plus it can reduce anxiety and stress while improving the quality of your sleep.

Attend virtual meetings

You are surely missing your friends, family or even a book club you attended physically in 2019. One of the sanest things you can do in such insane circumstances is to host or participate in virtual meetings. So, now you can host a meeting with friends or family daily or even once a week. Arranging such events in uncertain times can make you happy and help you to retain your overall well-being.

Try new healthy recipes

A pandemic can be the best or worst time to improve or worsen your health. However, you can make those recipes you bookmarked when you didn’t have time to cook and try them. But now you’ve got plenty of time. So, try those new healthy recipes. Become more mindful when taking care of your body.

Examine your thoughts

You are taking care of physical health, but what about mental health? During a pandemic, you may see uncertainty everywhere which can lead you to the negative thoughts leading to stress, anxiety and in extreme cases, even depression. Try to reframe your thoughts and convert them into positive thoughts. Remember, this too shall pass, it might pass like a kidney stone, but it’ll pass!

Break from the news

News headlines be like “we’re all gonna die tomorrow at midnight”. Sounds horrible, right?

Just like news bulletin takes advertisement breaks for money, you need a break from the news for your well-being. Avoid watching or streaming news every hour — instead of it, binge-watch Netflix series like Friends in your free time. Try to save one hour for news, and you can still remain updated.

Wrap-up

Undoubtedly, such extreme and sudden pandemic changes can cause anxiety and stress or sometimes lead to depression affecting physical and mental health. You should keep in mind that you can’t change the situation, but you can take care of yourself.

Stay healthy and let others know how to maintain well-being during the pandemic!
